Moonlight Labyrinth
Welcome to Moonlight Labyrinth, a 7-circuit Cretan style labyrinth in Ithaca, New York.

Meet our Friends of the Labyrinth!

This labyrinth owes its creation to a number of people. Some inspired the builder through their own work with labyrinths. Others donated time and money to the construction, and participated in the dedication ceremony. My family support me in following my dreams. The following people are gratefully acknowledged for their role in bringing this labyrinth into being.

The labyrinth is constructed of bricks set into the ground. The goal was easy maintenance. All you need is a lawnmower!

This Labyrinth was dedicated by the energy and love of good friends on June 24, 2006, as a place of peace, meditation and magic for all who walk it. Begun in 2003, every measurement, every brick, was done by the labyrinth builder, Janis Strope. It was a labor of love. What began as an interesting challenge became a magical journey. Most of the work required her to be on the ground, in the sun and wind, completely in touch with the natural world around her. The labyrinth taught her how to create it, from the moon stone at the mouth of the labyrinth, so that walkers can pause for a moment before entering, then pause again at the end of the walk, to absorb the experience - to the heartstone at the center (under the cauldron in the picture), where walkers can truly be in the heart of the sacred spiral.

The entrance leads to a right turn first, what is also known as a moon-wise first turn. This is an ancient pattern, older than the more common left turn labyrinth. The entrance faces south, where the Moon is most visible. The pathways are 2 feet wide, and the center is 12 feet by 12 feet.

Outlined in 963 bricks that shine in the moonlight, this labyrinth was designed to attune walkers to their receptive energy and intuition. The 14 turns from entry to center correspond to the 14 days between the dark moon and the full moon. The 14 turns back from the center to the entrance correspond to the 14 days between full to dark moon again. Use the rhythm of that cycle, walking whatever is on your mind into the center. Insights may be revealed so that you can see the truth underneath the layers. Then bring that truth outward as you walk, remaining open to additional information and solutions, until you step out onto the moon stone again.

The Moonlight Labyrinth is open for labyrinth enthusiasts to walk. Email Janis at janis@spiralgate.com if you would like to walk it.

With open heart and quiet mind.
Approach this place and you will find
    That shifting into Labyrinth Time
    Reveals anew your life's design.

Bow to Spirit at the start
    with reverence in your heart.
    Enter now this sacred place,
    Goddess dwells within this space.

    Spiral around into the core,
Determine what your life is for.
Then spiral out again and see
    The mysteries revealed to thee.

    Honor Spirit at the Stone
With thanks for what you were shown
May you be blessed in every way
And return to walk again one day.
