Calling in Sick

How sick is too sick?
How can I tell?
If Mom was here she would know.
She would say stay home
and I would sigh with relief
glad she was running the show.

But I am the adult
the one who must judge
who feels the pressure to go.
Will the boss get annoyed?
Will they think I'm a fake?
How I wish I could know.

Anxious about calling,
am I risking my job?
Should I stay home or go?
Pacing, deciding
It's not like I'm shopping,
if Mom was here she would know.
