With the labyrinth completed, I was ready for a new sacred landscape project. Why a stone circle? I had done ceremony in the recumbent stone circle at the Foundation of Light (see below) and loved the feel of that space. I had been further inspired by a visit in September 2006 to Nancy Heyward, a shaman in Michigan. We did a ceremony inside the stone circle on her property (see below), and it occured to me that I could create something like that myself.

My plan was to go with big stones, so I would buy rocks from the local quarry and have them delivered. This would entail having a truck have access to offload the stones. My first problem arose, because that limited a possible site to the front of my property. A truck could not drive across the labyrinth to access the back of my property. In fall 2006, I staked out an area in the west side of my front lawn.
Over the winter, seeing the stakes sticking up through the snow, I found myself ambivalent about the circle. I really did not want it in such a visible place. One day during January, which was unusually warm and snow-free, I wandered around the yard, and began to see large rocks here and there.

As I walked down to the fairy glen, I noticed the large rocks in with the lilies, and along the creek. |
There was a large one, shaped something like a crown, that I had dug out of the yard. And a jumble of rocks close to the edge of the stream.
What if I built it with stones I already had on the property?
